Marriott Vacations Worldwide Receives Circle of Excellence Innovator Award at American Resort Development Association’s Awards Gala

ORLANDO, Fla. – July 25, 2018 – Marriott Vacations Worldwide (NYSE: VAC) was recently recognized with several awards by the American Resort Development Association (ARDA) at the ARDA Awards Gala held during the annual Convention and Exposition in Las Vegas, Nev.

Among these honors was the ARDA Circle of Excellence (ACE) Innovator Award, presented to Marriott Vacations Worldwide’s Disaster Assessment and Response Team for its response and disaster relief efforts in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands following Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The ACE Innovator Award is an honor bestowed upon those that have attained the highest level of excellence and whose accomplishments and dedication drive the industry to new heights.

After Hurricane Matthew in 2016 which affected nine resorts in Hilton Head Island, Marriott Vacations Worldwide’s Disaster Assessment and Response Team saw an opportunity – to meaningfully enhance the company’s approaches to business continuity planning. The team redesigned the program structure to ensure complete functional alignment, global coordination and accountability.

In addition to the business response to these two hurricanes, Marriott Vacations Worldwide associates from around the world came together and donated over 10,000 pounds of basic supplies to their fellow associates at Marriott’s Frenchman’s Cove in St. Thomas. With an even greater gesture of support, the company decided to send power generators to all 135 Marriott’s Frenchman’s Cove associates, giving these associates access to at least partial power in their homes while restoration of full power on the island was not anticipated for many months. Because of these type of efforts by the team, DART also received the award for Reputation Issues/Crises Management Team or Team Member (Large Developer).
